Top 6 Internet Marketing Websites For Total Newbies

One of the most challenging things about internet marketing when starting out, is finding good resources to learn from, which is why I decided to compile my list of the top 6 internet marketing websites for total newbies.

When I started, I think I had to sift through a hundred websites, if not more, before I found a small handful of blogs worth focusing my attention on. Some of them gave you information overload, or were simply not meant for newbies, while others were snake oil salesmen trying to make money off of you without giving you any genuine value.

These top 6 internet marketing websites are arranged in order, from the more fundamental principles that newbies should learn, to the more sophisticated websites that you should check out after you’ve gotten a little bit of experience.

The Fundamentals to Never Forget

1) Steve Pavlina’s Blog

It’s very possible that I idolize Steve. His blog has truly valuable and especially inspiring information. It’s ultimately a personal development blog, but it has great stuff that you must absolutely read if you’re interested in making money online like me. It’s worth investigating, he is one of the most successful bloggers out there for a reason.

In 2006, he was making $400,000 a year, and now 2011. His traffic has more than quadrupled by now. He makes millions  annually off of this single blog alone and it continues to grow month to month.

Some of his posts you should read…

I mentioned Steve Pavlina in my previous post. While it does not give you any practical steps (we’ll get to that soon), it provides absolutely essential fundamentals that you must know in your journey towards making money online and learning internet marketing.

2) The Fastlane Forum

This is the very forum that helped me pick the domain name and theme for this website. Unlike the Warrior Forum (waste of time), this forum is full of very supportive people who aren’t trying to sell you anything. It’s a great community of people trying to help each other out in creating both online and offline businesses. In conjunction with the forum, I strongly suggest you read the forum creator’s book:

MJ DeMarco, the creator of the forum, made millions already with businesses like limos.com. He also outlines what you should stop doing if you’re in the slow lane(poor) and what you should do to be in the fast lane (rich). The topics covered in the book is very similar to the article, 10 Reason You Should Never Get a Job, by Steve Pavlina.

It’s an incredibly awesome book on what you need to do and what you need to stop doing if you ever expect to get rich. This book and Steve’s blog are really all the fundamentals you need to live rich and financially free. This is also the phase where you’ll also start generating ideas. Now you’ll have the right mindset to take the next step…

The Road-map to Taking Massive Action

 3) 6 Step Niche Sites With PotPieGirl

Just as the website says… it outlines the exact 6 steps needed to make a niche site. I talked about niche sites towards the end of my article, A Newbie Attempts Internet Marketing. These are principal steps to making any niche site. She calls these steps, “RICHER.”

“R” is for  research. “I” is for invest and install. “C” is for create. “H” is for hell of a day. “E” is for evaluate. “R” is for repeat.

What the hell does all that mean? Basically, you do your research in finding a profitable niche that, ideally, you have an interest in (the closer it is to your passions, the better). Once you have your research done (this is typically keyword research), you have to put up a website. After that, you create content, you start writing. Then you have to promote and market your website. Get the word out there. Then you evaluate your results and tweak what needs to be tweaked.

After all  that is done, you do it all over again! Anyways, you  get the idea, check it out.

4) Smart Passive Income Blog

There are millions of websites about internet marketing, so when I stumbled into this one, that’s exactly what I thought, “Whoop-de-do! Another internet marketing blog.” Upon further investigation, I started to see the value in his posts. He gave genuine advice. And there’s a reason why he has  a large following. No one ever has a large following for no reason.

What’s a little more unique about his blog is that he publishes these monthly Income Reports. Every month, since the day he started his blog, he complied a list things he did to earn his money online. He went into detail about what he did to improve or worsen his month to month income. It’s extremely inspiring to follow and see the numbers grow over the years.

Also, something very valuable to check out, is his Niche Duel. He put out a challenge to fellow  internet marketers to create a successful money-making niche site. The goal was to document every single little step taken to make and market the niche site. He should really have a link to this on his homepage, it’s very informative.

Another side comment, based on Alexa rankings, Pat at the Smart Passive Income Blog actually surpassed my idol, Steve Pavlina… wow!

5) Coppyblogger

Hands down, one of the biggest internet marketing websites/blogs out there is Brian Clark’s blog, Coppyblogger. This is a little more intermediate stuff, but it gives incredibly powerful tips on blogging.

I would say, once you picked your topic and created your website, definitely head over to Coppyblogger.com and check out their popular list of posts. It’s jam-packed with very important tips on creating content and writing.

Here’s a great article to get you started, once you’re ready:

The article is short and concise, which is one of the main points that the article talks about. I fundamental list of tips to follow when you write.

6) James Altucher

One of the smartest and funniest bloggers I’ve stumbled into, is James Altucher’s blog. His life story alone is something worth making a movie about. He has the kinds of life experiences you would disdain, but secretly envy at the same time. It all comes through in his writing and pulls you in with an unbreakable gravity. You can’t help but get sucked into his work. You’ll laugh and maybe tear up a little bit, but you’ll definitely leave with a changed perspective.

As far as business and making money are concerned,  you should check out this post:

He is another one of my idols. I deeply desire to write as sexy as James does.

In closing, I want you to remember this following quote from the Jame’s post that I just mentioned. Etch this deep into your mind and never forget…

Listen: You’ve been hypnotized. You’ve been told you need a corporate job. You need a college degree. You need stability. You need the white picket fence. You need the IRA and the health insurance. Snap your fingers in front of your face. The American Religion is a myth, just like the movie, Thor, is based on a myth. Stability is only in your mind. There’s $15 trillion dollars in our economy, recession or no recession. Its falling like snow. Reach out with your tongue and taste it.

    Hey Brian,

Good list of blogs to follow! What I used to do to find good content was scroll through people’s “Blogrolls” – of course, I don’t think very many people do that these days. ConversationAgent.com does on her website still. She groups them up into all kinds of various categories: Branding, Marketing, etc.

So much good stuff out there to pick up. So much stuff, not enough time, heh.

Hey Ryan, thanks for checking out my blog. I have not updated in a while because of 2 things.

First) I have been very busy developing niche websites, I will update this blog with the details in the near future. I plan to do a screencast discussing what I’ve been up to.

Second) School! Busy with studying, exams, and all that junk. 2 things are going to happen, either I succeed at internet marketing first and not have to worry about school/getting a job. Or I finish school first and get a job, then internet marketing will be a hobby.
