Newbie Attempts Internet Marketing: Finding a Niche Part 1
This is my first ever attempt at creating a video. It is amateur to the max. I say “um” a lot and there are plenty of pauses.
I’ll do my best to improve my video speaking and editing ability to make it sexy for you guys in the future. But without further delay, here’s my first baby video in all her glory!
Internet Marketing 101
If you look at any successful niche website and backwards engineer it, you’ll see this process…
- Market research: Keywords and niche finding
- Website design/creation
- Content creation (based on keywords research)
- Advertising/SEO/Backlinking (get the word out there)
- Monitization (make money off of the traffic)
- Rinse and repeat
Basically, it’s chizels down to, finding a need providing the answer to that need. Simple.
The 3 internet marketing philosophies
There are 3 philosophies in the Internet marketing world. They are fundamentally the same process, but it is a matter of what motive you begin with.
Philosophy 1: Chase your passion
There are many successful people out there that tell you to do what you love, chase you passion. The reason why, is because it makes the whole process fun for you. It’s so much easier to put in 110% of your effort into something you actually like than it is to put your efforts into something you could care less about.
Bottom line, you won’t get burnt out as easily.
Philosophy 2: Chase demand
This is the opposite camp. They believe that to consistently make money, you have to chase demand. Forget passion, it’s more important to focus on the money. Hollywood is full of would-be actors chasing their passion, but will never succeed. Less than 0.5% of athletes succeed on a professional level. Passion is for losers, so they say.
The problem with this, also the opposite affect of chasing your passion, is that you get burnt out easily. When it gets boring and tedious, you lose motivation rapidly,
It becomes easier to quit and give up. It’s not fun.
Philosophy 3: Do BOTH
Now the 3rd philosophy in internet marketing is a balance between the 2 extremes. Have a list of passions or things you’d liked to get into yourself, and then do market research to match the demand with what you’re interested in.
This is what I believe in and it will be the basis of my internet marketing campaigns.
Conclusion
In the video, I start to get into actually picking a topic of interest and doing research on it. But I had to cut it off, since the 10 minute mark was upon us. It’s amazing how fast time goes by when you’re doing a video like that. It was fun talking, I just need to improve my speaking ability and then get more experience with video editing.
Stay tuned for the next video, it’ll be better and a little bit more organized. I’ll also be covering, in more detail, the different types of keyword research software and the whole trial and error process of finding a profitable niche.

I agree with most of these tips but I never fully understand wy a some who is starting out (and I do mean very much quite a newbie) should be making money out of the little traffic they develop in the beginning. They should rather wait a while and then decide to make money off of the traffic. I don’t see it as a bad idea to create revenue from an online avenue but I feel it is not right to do so from the very start when no one really knows what yoy are about eg: starting a new website, minimal traffic but offering an e-book for a certain price

You are most definitely correct. Traffic comes before monitization.
No traffic, no money, no business.
However, there is the belief of some, to “fake it ’til you make it.”

Lol. Im not new anymore on creating videos but I still say lots of ‘uhms’ hahah.
Anyway, regarding picking a niche I think its finding the intercept between what you like and whats profitable. I’ve had a lot of failed projects because I’m very passionate about lots of things that are not really profitable.

MJ DeMarco says in his book, that chasing passion is not smart. It must have demand, a burning need.
Need comes before passion, but the 2 can coexist. It’s a matter of brainstorming and research.
Thanks for your feedback, Melvin

“It becomes easier to quit and give up. It’s not fun.” good chuckle here
Reminds me that hard work is not fun but rewarding. I am a complete newb as well and all this is so new to me. I really like what you wrote about your about page and how one day you’ll edit it, I also have that in mind as well.
I wish you best of luck!
